3Rs
Respectful - Responsible - Resourceful

 

  • Respect
    • for one another - positive statements!
      • Come in quietly, find seat and sit down - ready to listen and learn
      • Listen while librarian is talking
      • Raise your hand to ask questions
      • Wait your turn
      • Walk
      • Low talking - inside voices
    • for the library
      • chairs are for sitting - not on the tables
      • all four legs of the chairs on the floor - not safe to lean back
      • computer shelf is fragile - don't lean on it
    • for the books
      • take care of them
        • here - shelve them carefully, mark space on shelf or leave on the end
        • at home - keep them safe and clean - where you know where they are
        • to and from school - watch the weather - don't jam them into backpacks
  • Responsible
    • for the books
      • return books on time - watch the due dates
      • return books on time - others may want them (Hold option)
      • return books on time - won't get lost and have to be paid for
    • for the computers - Internet Agreement signed
      • keep the screen as it is
      • no email (unless for homework), no games (unless Library), no downloading
    • for printing
      • no printing directly from internet
        • cut and copy web information into a Word or Works document
      • 1 page - click on 1 to 1
      • if it doesn't print the first time, it won't print the second time - get Mrs. Cutler to help
  • Resourceful
    • Think first
    • Ask your fellow student
    • Become independent library users

Procedures

  • come in quietly, find your seat and sit down, ready to listen and learn
  • attendance and announcements
  • author of the week presentation
  • genre of the month
  • lesson or activity of the day - (push chairs in when leaving tables)
  • work in pairs - A and B - one pair to a numbered computer
    • A on keyboard and B with clipboard - then reverse next week
  • return to seats to summarize
  • push chairs in and then
  • last 5-10 minutes to check out books - if time has been used efficiently and effectively
  • bell rung to line up at south door (also if more quiet needed)

It's Your Choice - but

  • #1 - warning
  • #2 - time out at table instead of free time OR time out at yellow table
  • #3 - stay in from recess, wash tables or study hall time here
  • #4 - parent contact - letter/email
  • #5 - office/referral

Goals

  • learn about books, authors and literature
  • learn about doing research both with books and on the internet
  • become independent users of this library - and of any library
